I think I nearly killed Wayne two weeks ago; I took him off-road mountain biking with my mate Paul… And that was the day after a long ride on the road!!! I’m not sure if it would be classed as Manslaughter or Euthanasia though as at least it would put him out of his misery!!!
It was on Sunday 16th February that we endured 16.5 miles of mud, sweat & tears and I have to say that it really hurt, especially after Wayne and I had cycled a big 50 miles the day before. Here’s the route we did on Saturday (here). And Sunday’s off-road route (here).
I’ve mentioned the off-road route in a previous blog (15/11/2011 In the words of Bon Jovi...) and it’s a killer but enjoyable… if that makes any sense. You get covered in mud on a wet day and it takes as long to clean the bike as it took to do the ride! BUT there is a real sense of achievement when your done.
Actually it's Okay, training’s not THAT bad; we all got out today albeit for differing run-lengths.
I woke up at 05:30 and after a bowl of muesli and a coffee I drove to Middle Barton to meet Wayne. At 06:50, after Wayne replaced his inner-tube due to a puncture, he and I set off toward Charlbury and onward towards Witney. We arrived two minutes earlier than our 08:00 meeting time with Alan and Jeremy and after a quick chat we were off. We headed towards Burford on the back roads and then back across to Charlbury. In Charlbury, Alan had to veer off home whist Wayne and I shared a sandwich to refuel a bit. From there we headed off on a VERY random course so that Wayne and I could break the 50 mile barrier again. Here’s the route we did (here), as you can see it was a bit haphazard!
As Jeremy stayed with us from The Windrush, he managed 35 miles and because Alan had already done 6 miles before we met with him, he managed a total of 30 miles.… All in all, a good day!
Now all we need to do is 50 miles on a Wednesday and 80 on a Saturday… That might actually kill me! Is that classed as suicide if I organise it?
Our fundraising is going well, the “Curry & Pig Race Night” at the Windrush (http://www.windrushinn.com) raised over £1,000!!! Well done to all, especially Jeremy for… Um… Err… “Organising” it!!! Thanks to Jimi for dragging almost everyone he knows there, and a big thank you to Anne for doing the Tote all night.
Jeremy's also organised an Elvis night on Saturday 12th March, come along, have a laugh and give us your money. Thank-you-very-much!!!
