One year to the day and we’ll be finished! The journey that is, not us I hope.
Actually, we'll probably be hungover as the ride will have finished yesterday, and we'll have celebrated at the welcome home party... That's a bit scary now I think of it.
As a group, we’re stepping up the pace, Jeremy and Wayne managed to do a colossal amount of miles on Sunday 27th June!
They went on an organised ride from London to Oxford (60 miles) and even managed to cycle to Oxford to catch the bus, and then cycled home afterwards! That’s an extra 20 odd miles for Jeremy and 10 odd miles for Wayne. With a day’s ride of 70 or 80 miles behind them they are easily trying the hardest!
They said it did hurt though... I'm not overly surprised.
I managed 43.84 miles on Sunday 4th July. I felt okay until the last 3 miles... my right knee started to ache, I think my seat's too low... reading up on the internet (thank you to the founts of knowledge that are the CTC Forum (http://forum.ctc.org.uk) and Sheldon Brown (www.sheldonbrown.com), it really could be any number of things! I really must set up my bike properly!
Dave's bought a "Turbo Trainer" so he can start to get some time on his bike and Alan's been out a couple of times with Jeremy and Wayne.
Jeremy, Wayne and I all went out together on Wednesday 7th July. We met at Jeremy's Pub, The Windrush in Witney, and went off towards Burford. From Burford we headed North East to Charlbury, then through Stonesfield, Coombe and Long Hanborough. The final leg was to follow the A4095 back to Witney. If you would like to see the route cut and paste this into your browser (http://j.mp/9C9JT6). The keen eyed amongst you will spot a slight deviation in Charlbury... Yes we stopped for a well deserved beer at The Bell!
Some of the hills really were killers. Although they slowed me down, Jeremy (and Wayne to lesser degree) stormed up them... More hill training needed for me then.
All in all it was a good, picturesque, undulating run, nearly 30 Miles done in 2 hours of ride time and we’re happy with that... Now, what’s the best training for hills?
Oh..... Ride up more hills.... Damn.
