I managed to get out on Sunday afternoon and did a 62km (http://tinyurl.com/2cs7z8m) in preparation for the torturous activity that Googie has organised for Sunday 3rd October. In fact, it’s not just for the Sunday but the Monday too!
He and I are about to embark on our longest cycle journey to date, Oxford to Cambridge and back the next day. That means we’ll be cycling from Bicester to Oxford (21km / 13m) at 7am, then Oxford to Cambridge (143km / 89m) and the next day Cambridge to Bicester (122km / 76m). That’s a total of 286km or 178 miles in two days, or in physical terms that’s the equivalent of cycling from London to Swansea or, just shy of cycling from Oxford to Bruges in Belgium!
We’ll be “credit-card touring” which means we’re not carrying camping gear as we’ll be staying in a hotel so we only need a change of clothes, a toothbrush and our credit cards to get by. It was Googie’s suggestion to stay overnight rather than catch the bus home on Sunday afternoon, let’s see if he’s still as keen when we’ve cycled to Oxford for 08:00, let alone Cambridge as we will have done 164km (102m) by then!
Although it sounds a bit scary, this is the sort of distances we will need to cover every day for 13 days on the trot! The route is reasonably flat but it will still be good mental preparation as well as physical. I think that I’m just as worried about Googie organising the trip, as I am about the trip itself!
I’ve added an app on my iPhone that should let anyone who wants to, track our JOGLE next year, albeit roughly as it will draw straight lines point-to-point. I’m going to test it on Sunday... if you go to the “The Route” page on our website (http://5blokes-end2end.weebly.com) there is a link to the “Live Tracker”. The username is fiveblokes and the password is “end2end”. Let me know if it works!!! My email is nathdale at hotmail dot com (I’ve typed it this way to avoid any automated spamming).

All the best,
