Well.... I’ve gone and bought a new super-de-duper bike computer. It’s a Garmin Edge 705 (with map, cadence and heart-rate monitor), and it’s what I will be using to navigate our JOGLE. I thought I may as well buy it early and get used to how it works. Jez wondered what I’ll buy next for the bike... I now have a Seat-Bag, a Bar-Bag and Sat-Nav, it’s not my fault.... I’ve caught the bug!
Jeremy, Alan and I went out last night, we started at 7pm and did a lovely 30 mile route (monitored buy my new toy). Our route was pretty flat so our average speed was good (16.2mph). Although we enjoyed the route, we did have a couple of issues with the ride as a whole though:
No Drink
NATHAN – I forgot my bottles... Still, it’s the first time I’ve done that!
A Faller
NATHAN – When stopping to buy a drink, my foot got stuck in my pedal... And I got acquainted with the pavement! Hurt pride but nothing more... Still, it’s the first time I’ve done that too!
A Kite
JEREMY – Jez decided to where his waterproof, it blew up like a kite as soon as he started to ride, it’s amazing just how much drag it caused. For the first time ever, I managed to keep pace with him... until he took it off, then he was off like Lance Armstrong (note to self: I must buy him a yellow jersey, he’s always at the front).
A Bottle Drop
NATHAN – I hit a bump in the road and the bottle jumped out of my pocket. Had to turn around and find it... Still, it’s the first..... you get the picture
Loss of light
We thought the light would last longer but we got caught going through North Leigh at dusk. On the road, under tree cover it was a bit too dark really and not very pleasant. We didn’t half pick up our pace though!
All valuable lessons (mostly me of course), but it’s best to get them out of the way now I guess!
Family Fun Day – 29th August
Don't forget, Jeremy is organising a fundraiser at The Windrush Inn, Witney on 29th August (Bank Holiday weekend). Collections on the day will be added to our JustGiving "offline" funds and will go direct to Cancer Research UK.

All the best,
Nathan
