Those that know me are aware that I play pool every Monday night in the Bicester and District Pool League. Anyone that’s ever spoken to me on a Tuesday morning will be all too aware of the thick head I sport most weeks. Anyway, every year the Committee arrange a Finals Night and Cup Presentation where the finalists of the singles competition play. Lots of people go to watch and to collect their various winners and runner’s up medals. This year it was held on Friday 8th April and Ant Scholz asked if I wanted to walk round with a bucket doing a collection. The Committee also very kindly donated £50 from the league itself. People were really generous on the night, a big “Thank you” to you all.
Cash raised… £178.52
The next morning (Saturday 9th April, 09:00) and the words of Tim Allen in Home Improvement sprang to mind… “More Power!”
As I’m a member of a VW owners club called OxDubz, I arranged our monthly meeting to coincide with a “charity dyno test day” at Bob Watson Porsche Engineering. We had quite a few people turn up and 9 cars were tested for their BHP and Torque. I’d like to say a big thanks to the OxDubz guys for putting their pride and joys on the rollers and I’d also like to thank the Peugeot club “Pug1Off” for bringing some REALLY impressive cars. The most powerful cars of the day was a red 306 which pushed out 270bhp and Mark Anderson’s Skoda Octavia VRS which had 335Nm of Torque! My little VW “Doon”Beach Buggy only squeezed out 60bhp/107Nm..... But I was well happy with that, it normally breaks down whenever I take it to a meeting!
Cash raised… £109.96
A little later on Saturday, I took a drive to The Fox in Middle Barton to see Wayne. Whilst there, a guy that Wayne knew was trying to place a £10 bet at 20/1 but couldn’t get through on his phone. Up steps Wayne to take Scott’s bet. If the horse comes nowhere, Wayne said the £10 can go into the pot… If it wins, Wayne will be £210 down. Then Scott says if it wins he’ll stick in £160!!! Needless to say, it didn’t win so we got £10 in the pot… Wayne did look a bit anxious for a while
though.
Cash raised… £10 - This gets the prize for the weirdest donation of the weekend
though
The real reason for visiting The Fox was to see Tony, the landlord. He is organising a massive gig this weekend at The Regal in Oxford…

Tickets are £12 on the door

Tony is making a generous donation towards our fundraising and has said that we

Still, I’ve got a whole 10 weeks to prepare… now all I need to do is find some spare time to train!!!
