Okay, so when Mandie suggested doing a street collection I thought “that’s a good idea”. When I found out how many forms I had to fill out I thought “Why did I agree to that?”
But, after filling in all the forms… After getting leaflets printed… After setting up the “Turbo Trainer”… After peddling for three hours… on a warm day with little breeze… going nowhere… being pointed at as a reason NOT to cycle… And, after an hour of counting coins… It was well worth it.
We raised £886.58.
A big “thanks” to everyone that walked past and said “hello”. A big “thanks” to those that gave Coppers, Silvers, Pounds and even Folding. And a big “Sod Off” to anyone that said “you do know you’re not moving”… yes I laughed the first 10 times, and even then was faking it! I might have actually laughed if any of the “comedians” that uttered the phrase actually put some money in the bucket.
Anyway, pedalling the bike on the turbo trainer helped, of that I’m sure. As did the T-shirts kindly organised by the ever-lovely Kate at James Dunn Felt Roofing. Jeremy had a great time trying to chat up every girl that walked pass too!!!
We have another fundraiser coming up, I’ve organised a car meeting for April 9th at Bob Watson Porsche Engineering, Unit 4 Hatch End, Middle Aston, Oxon OX25 5QL. Lots of cars and people should be coming and for every car that tests their bhp on the rollers, we’ll get £10 towards Cancer Research! Come along for a look around.
On the training front, 66 miles on Saturday, 22 on Tuesday and 18 miles on my Mountain Bike on Thursday… with 12 weeks to go, I’m happy with my progress.
