For dinner we walked all of 400 yards to what looked every bit like a transport café. Rhona suggested it, as did “Doone” on a forum I read (CTC Forum) and I admit it, looks are really deceptive. The view looked out onto Dunbeath Bay and the food was terrific. The people were great too, the locals were chatty, and one guy called Ned even chucked us £5. Quality.
We had a few beers the bar after the meal too. We probably shouldn’t have done with Berriedale Breaes 6 miles in today but we figured, what’s the point in not having a beer if we’re going to push the bikes regardless!
So on to today’s ride.
We woke at 07:30 after a great night’s sleep. Rhona’s cooked breakfast was great; everyone enjoyed it, especially the sausages… Oh, and Alan was happy, HP was the “Brown sauce” today.
There was a lot of tension in the air, Berriedale beckoned. The general consensus was to push if we needed to. So at 09:00, off we went. Alan and Wayne set off whilst Jezzer went to the van to get his helmet!!! He and I were setting off with Alan and Wayne when I reminded him to put his helmet on.
We started with a short downhill followed by a big uphill. We all managed it fine. On we went. Berriedale came too quickly, my hamstrings are taking 10 miles to warm up and I felt that there was no way I’d climb it…
On the injury front, Wayne’s knee hurts. Alan and I have intermittent knee issues and everyone is suffering with numb hands and really sore buttocks!!!
The Great Glen tomorrow I’ll give Nessy a wave if I see her.
